THE MISSION OF THE DUST-TO-DIGITAL FOUNDATION IS TO PRESERVE AUDIO RECORDINGS FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS. 

In 2011, we founded Music Memory as a way to ensure the preservation and continued availability of historic and traditional American and international musical sound recordings and related media. To date, we have digitized more than 50,000 recordings from the private collections of some of the world’s most prominent private record collections. Our goal is to build a database to be publicly available to all. What that will require are licenses with the copyright holders with whom we are in dialogue and funding to construct the database.

While steps are being made in the preservation component of our non-profit work, we are increasing our efforts to educate the public about and promote interest in historic and traditional American and international music via projects like the Voices of Mississippi multimedia live tour. Earlier this year, Music Memory’s board of directors voted to change the name of the organization to the Dust-to-Digital Foundation. It also voted in favor of incorporating outreach initiatives like the Voices of Mississippi live show into the non-profit’s work. The goal for the tour will remain the same to produce a high-quality show and offer personal workshops and screenings of Bill Ferris’s films while compensating the artists very well and covering all of their travel and daily expenses in order to bring the experience to as many people around the world as possible. Any contribution that you can make will go toward facilitating that vision and keeping the legacies of the Mississippi musicians represented in the show alive.

Dust-to-Digital Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of recorded music of all types & genres. In July 2011, Music Memory’s application for tax exempt status was granted by the Internal Revenue Service. In November of 2023, Music Memory's name was changed to Dust-to-Digital Foundation. Dust-to-Digital Foundation is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to Dust-to-Digital Foundation are deductible under section 170 of the Code.
